JetPrivilege HDFC World Debit Card joining bonus gutted

From November 15, 2017 the JetPrivilege HDFC World Debit Card's joining bonus was cut 75%, from 2,000 JPMiles plus 1,000 RPs to 500 JPMiles, and its blanket 2 JPMiles/₹150 earn rate was restricted to specific categories with everything else dropping to 1 JPMile/₹150.

The JetPrivilege HDFC World Debit Card just lost most of what made it interesting. From November 15, 2017, the joining bonus falls from 2,000 JPMiles plus 1,000 RPs to a flat 500 JPMiles — a 75% cut. The earn side gets carved up too: the blanket 2 JPMiles per ₹150 rate now applies only to specific categories, with everything else dropping to 1 JPMile per ₹150.

This card punched way above its weight for a ₹500 annual fee. It was one of the cheapest ways into JetPrivilege at scale — a debit card, no credit approval theatre, real mileage earn on everyday spend.

HDFC didn’t kill it. It did something quieter: halved the base earn on uncategorised spend and gutted the sign-up math, betting most holders wouldn’t run the numbers.

Our take: we ran the numbers. At 1 JPMile per ₹150 outside the favoured categories and a 500-mile welcome, this is no longer a points play — it’s a debit card with a logo on it.
