JetPrivilege kills flat-rate miles — 100% devaluation

JetPrivilege ended flat-rate miles earning on July 16, 2016. The program shifted to miles by fare class, with discount fares earning zero miles. This change was effective from August 17, 2016. The new policy also included a reduction in Platinum baggage allowance from 20kg to 15kg and the introduction of distance-based carrier surcharges for redemptions. Deep-discount fares no longer earned miles, and free changes on cheap fares were discontinued. The changes marked a significant shift in the JetPrivilege program, making it less generous for frequent flyers. Our take: discount fares earning zero miles is the entire story — the fares most Indians actually buy stopped paying anything at all. Add Platinum baggage cut from 20kg to 15kg and distance-based surcharges bolted onto redemptions, and JetPrivilege stops being a programme anyone can use and becomes a front-cabin scheme. If you were banking miles on cheap fares, that engine is off from 17 August.
