HSBC Live+ switches on its international lounge visit, and adds a 1GB global eSIM
The international lounge visit HSBC promised Live+ holders landed on 1 September 2026 — one a calendar year, claimed off a separate Thriwe platform rather than by tapping the card. A complimentary 1GB global eSIM arrived in the same rewrite, undated. Neither changes what the ₹999 card earns.
A dated benefit arriving on time is not news. What HSBC did around it is.
The Live+ Service Guide has said “1 complimentary international lounge visit w.e.f. 1st September 2026” since at least 16 August — this desk read it there. On the day it landed, HSBC rewrote the product page’s own footnote to drop the future tense and, for the first time, say how you get the visit: “To access your benefits, visit the dedicated platform powered by Thriwe.”
That sentence matters more than its length suggests. This is not a lounge network and it is not a card tap. It is a claim you make on hsbcliveplus.thriwe.com, and a benefit you have to go and fetch is a benefit a fair share of cardholders will never fetch. HSBC still names no network for either quota, domestic or international, which is why our lounge map carries the counts on this card and no scheme against them.
The full lounge line on Live+ is now two domestic visits a year — and no more than one every six calendar months — plus one international visit per calendar year. Three visits, on a ₹999 card.
The eSIM, priced honestly
Riding in on the same page rewrite, and undated by HSBC, so it is logged on the lounge date rather than a date of its own: “1 Complimentary 1GB valid Global eSIM per calendar year, plus a 20% discount on every top-up. The 1GB pack will be valid for 7 days across 98 countries.”
Read those numbers before you rate it. One gigabyte. Seven days. Once a year. That is a long weekend’s maps and messages, not a roaming plan, and the honest framing is a taster that sells top-ups at a discount. On a card whose ₹999 fee HSBC reverses in full above ₹2,00,000 of eligible spend, it is still free money. It is just a great deal less money than “complimentary global eSIM” sounds.
Nothing here touches the engine
Worth saying plainly, because a benefits rewrite is where people start assuming the earn moved. It did not. Live+ still pays 10% on dining, food delivery, groceries, shopping and utilities, hard-capped at ₹1,200 a calendar month, with Amazon and Flipkart pushed back to 1.5% inside that tier and Myntra keeping the 10% only until 31 October 2026. Everything else is 1.5% uncapped. International spends earn nothing at all — HSBC took the cashback off them on 26 July 2026 when it cut the foreign-currency markup to 1.99%, and that trade is still the whole reason to carry this card abroad.
And the cashback is cashback. There is no rewards programme on Live+, no transfer partner and no points balance, so nothing this card earns can ever become an award seat.
Our take
Keep it, as the second card it is. The international visit is real and it is the first one this card has ever had, but claim it early in the calendar year and claim it deliberately — a once-a-year benefit behind a third-party portal is the kind of thing you remember in December. The eSIM is a nice-to-have you should not plan a trip around. The reason Live+ is worth ₹999 remains what it was on 26 July: 1.99% against the 3.5% the rest of the HSBC shelf charges, which on ₹5 lakh of overseas spend is ₹7,550 a year of markup you do not pay.
