Airtel Axis card loses its four lounge visits
From 12 April 2026 Axis stripped all four complimentary domestic lounge visits off the Airtel co-brand, tied its cashback caps to prior spend, and cut the 10% on Swiggy, Zomato and BigBasket. A cheap lounge key for a lot of wallets just stopped turning.
Axis took a scalpel to the Airtel co-brand on 12 April 2026, and lounge access was first under the blade — all four complimentary domestic visits, gone. For a ₹500 utility card, those visits were the one travel perk worth carrying it for.
The cashback engine got worse in the same stroke. Category caps now scale with base spend: to unlock the full ₹250 of Airtel cashback you first have to spend ₹12,500 on ordinary purchases. The old 10% on Swiggy, Zomato and BigBasket was cut to a ₹200-a-month “value back” paid into partner wallets — on Zomato, Blinkit and District — not to your statement. Cardinsider called it “quite a brutal devaluation,” and that’s about right.
We track this one because lounge access is lounge access, whatever card it rides on. The Airtel Axis was never a miles card, but it was a legitimately cheap way into a domestic lounge for millions of Airtel users. That door is shut.
Our take: if you kept the Airtel Axis purely for the lounge visits, it’s now doing nothing you can’t get free elsewhere. Downgrade candidate — and if lounge access was the whole point, cancel and move that spend to a card that still opens the door.
