HDFC guts SmartBuy 10X: Infinia and Diners Black points slashed
HDFC cut SmartBuy 10X monthly caps 40-50% — Infinia from 25,000 to 15,000 points, Diners Black from 15,000 to 7,500 — and dropped Amazon to 5X and Flipkart to 3X, with no grace period.
HDFC has taken an axe to SmartBuy 10X, the programme that made Infinia and Diners Club Black the default cards for every online shopper in the country. From June 2020, Infinia’s monthly bonus-point cap drops from 25,000 to 15,000 and Diners Black’s from 15,000 to 7,500 — cuts of 40-50%.
The category multipliers got it worse. Amazon and Flipkart — the two channels everyone actually farmed — fall from 10X to 5X and 3X respectively. The published caps and the published multipliers were both slashed in one move.
Downstream, the damage is brutal: effective reward rates on Diners Privilege and Regalia crater from roughly 13% to 5%. Overnight. And true to form, HDFC gave no grace period — no wind-down, no honoured pipeline, just a new rate sheet.
Our take: this is a major devaluation, full stop. SmartBuy 10X was the single best earn engine in Indian cards, and HDFC just cut it roughly in half. Recalculate every spend you were routing through it.
