HDFC Diners 10X SmartBuy extended again, to September 2018
HDFC extended the Diners Club Black 10X SmartBuy programme through 30 September 2018, after it had been set to expire mid-year. The programme remains officially temporary, renewed one quarter at a time.
HDFC Bank has extended the Diners Club Black 10X SmartBuy programme yet again — this time through 30 September 2018. The perk had been set to expire mid-2018, and once more the bank stepped in at the last moment with a short-leash renewal.
This is the most lucrative thing on the Diners Club Black, and HDFC treats it like a month-to-month lease. By 2018 the 10X programme has become a running joke among Indian points geeks: never officially permanent, always one bank memo away from disappearing, extended in quarterly dribs so nobody can plan around it.
The pattern has history. Amazon was pulled from the 10X list in November 2017, and the programme has lurched from deadline to deadline ever since.
Our take: front-load your SmartBuy spend before September 30 and treat every extension as the last one. A benefit renewed in three-month increments is not a benefit — it is a promotion, and promotions end.
