Citi kills PremierMiles 10X — a 100% devaluation

Citi PremierMiles’ 10X ‘Extra’ partner program has ended. The program previously offered 10X miles on select partner spends, but now only offers 10X miles on premiermiles.co.in and direct airline bookings. This change occurred as of December 1, 2017, and follows a previous trimming of the program in 2016.

The end of the ‘Extra PremierMiles’ program significantly reduces the value of the Citi PremierMiles card for cardholders who used the 10X miles offer on real-world travel spend. Without this benefit, the card primarily over-rewards its own booking portal.

Our take: with ‘Extra’ dead, 10X survives only on premiermiles.co.in and direct airline bookings — so the card now pays its headline rate on Citi’s own portal and base rate on the real-world travel spend it was sold for. A travel card whose only bonus category is its own booking site is a portal card wearing a better name.
