Amex India re-rates Hilton Honors upward — 10:9 becomes 2:3
The second half of Amex India's 18 August 2026 buff: Membership Rewards into Hilton Honors goes from 10:9 to 2:3, so 1,00,000 MR now buys 1,50,000 Hilton points instead of 90,000. At ₹0.40 a Hilton point that is ₹0.60 per MR — more than MR's own ₹0.50 house value.
On 18 August 2026 American Express India improved two Membership Rewards transfer ratios at once. The Virgin Atlantic half — 2:1 to 5:4 — got the headline. This is the other half, and on the arithmetic it is the bigger surprise.
Hilton Honors goes from 10:9 to 2:3. 1,00,000 MR used to buy 90,000 Hilton Honors points. It now buys 1,50,000 — a 67% uplift on a route this desk had filed under “weak”.
Why the verdict has to change
Hilton points are the cheapest currency on our board, at ₹0.40 apiece, and it has been fashionable to treat the Amex route as dead weight. At 0.9 Hilton points per MR the route was worth ₹0.36 per MR, against a ₹0.50 house value for Membership Rewards itself — you lost value the moment you transferred. At 1.5 Hilton points per MR it prices at ₹0.60 per MR, which is more than MR’s house value. It is now the highest raw ₹-per-MR conversion Amex India sells, ahead of every airline door. The arithmetic changed, so the verdict does.
Nothing else moved. The transfer still wants a 1,000 MR minimum, is normally immediate with up to seven days allowed in exceptional cases, and is one-way: once the points land in Hilton, they are not coming back.

Amex published fresh Hilton Honors and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club transfer terms on 17 August 2026 — VirginHilton_Aug26.pdf on americanexpress.com, whose own authoring timestamp is 17 August. That document is our anchor for the date and for every mechanic above. What it does not carry is a ratio table: Amex India keeps live conversion ratios on its dynamic transfer pages, not in the T&Cs. So the ratio itself is sourced to two community desks — LiveFromALounge and CardInsider — which caught the change independently on the same afternoon and quoted the same 1,00,000 → 1,50,000 figure. Their before value, 10:9, matches exactly what this desk already held on file, which is the corroboration that matters.
Our take
If you have a Conrad or Waldorf Astoria night in mind, transferring now beats redeeming MR through the catalogue by a distance, and the 2:3 ratio puts a Hilton award within reach of a realistic Indian MR balance for the first time. The usual caution stands: the ratio lives on a page Amex can change without telling anyone, so check the live transfer screen before you move a large balance, and never transfer speculatively.
