Scapia devalues lounges — a 100% hike
Scapia doubles the lounge threshold to ₹20,000/month and removes insurance and utility payments from earning coins, making it harder for cardholders to access unlimited domestic lounges. This change increases the required spend by 100%.
Scapia has made significant changes to its rewards program, doubling the lounge threshold to ₹20,000/month. Previously, cardholders could access unlimited domestic lounges with a prior-month spend of ₹10,000. Additionally, insurance and utility payments will no longer earn coins and will not count towards the lounge threshold. This change will primarily affect cardholders who relied on insurance and utility payments to meet the lounge threshold. With these payments no longer earning coins or counting towards the threshold, cardholders will need to spend more on other categories to access the lounges. Our take: ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 a month is the headline, but pulling insurance and utility payments out of both the earn and the threshold is what actually bites — those were the two categories that carried ordinary spenders over the line without trying. Scapia is still lifetime-free with 0% forex, and that is still the reason to hold it. The unlimited-lounge promise is now a ₹20,000-a-month subscription paid in spend you have to route through the card deliberately.
