OneCard adds 1% fee on third-party app loads — a 1% toll

OneCard has introduced a 1% fee on rent or wallet loads made through third-party apps like Paytm, Cred, and PhonePe. Additionally, the fuel surcharge waiver is now capped at ₹400 per month. This change affects cardholders who use these apps to load funds or pay rent. The 1% fee on third-party app loads is a new cost for cardholders, on top of any existing convenience fees charged by the apps themselves. For example, in-app rent payments already carry a 1.5% convenience fee. The fuel surcharge waiver cap of ₹400 per month may also impact cardholders who previously enjoyed unlimited waivers. Our take: the new 1% lands on top of the 1.5% convenience fee the apps already charge, so routing rent through Paytm or Cred now costs 2.5% to earn points on a card whose base rate is 0.2%. That trade is dead — pay rent from the bank account. The ₹400 monthly cap on the fuel surcharge waiver is the smaller cut, but it is the same move: a benefit that used to be uncapped now has a ceiling.
