Marriott Bonvoy launches as the unified loyalty brand
Marriott Rewards, SPG and Ritz-Carlton Rewards become one program under a single new name: Marriott Bonvoy.
The SPG-Marriott integration finally has a name. Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and Ritz-Carlton Rewards are now one program: Marriott Bonvoy. Three currencies, three status ladders and three apps collapse into a single brand.
For Indian points collectors, the consolidation matters more than the name. Bonvoy is now the single biggest hotel currency your card points can reach, with Amex among the transfer routes in. One program, one points balance, one chart to learn — that’s the pitch.
The flip side is concentration risk. SPG loyalists already watched their beloved program get folded into the combined scheme; now every future devaluation hits one giant currency instead of three small ones. When the biggest hotel program on your transfer menu re-prices, there’s nowhere to rotate.
Our take: Bonvoy’s scale makes it unavoidable for Indian hotel redemptions — use the access, but treat a currency this dominant as a place to transfer through, not a place to store value.
