Taj InnerCircle and Shangri-La's Golden Circle join up

Taj Hotels and Shangri-La struck a first-of-its-kind 'Warmer Welcomes' alliance, giving InnerCircle and Golden Circle members reciprocal recognition and perks across each other's properties.

Indian hotel loyalty just got its first real alliance. Taj’s InnerCircle and Shangri-La’s Golden Circle — two programmes that previously had zero reciprocity — are joining up under a partnership called “Warmer Welcomes,” giving members of each programme recognition and perks at the other’s properties.

To be clear about what this is not: it is not a merger. The programmes stay separate, the points stay separate, and nobody is combining balances. What you get is reciprocal benefits when an InnerCircle member walks into a Shangri-La, and vice versa.

But do not dismiss it. Taj is strong in India and thin abroad; Shangri-La is the reverse. For an InnerCircle member, this handshake creates a genuine reason to book Shangri-La on a swing through Southeast Asia instead of defaulting to Marriott or Hilton — status recognition where you previously had none.

Our take: a friendly handshake, not a merger, but the first time an Indian hotel programme has bought its members relevance outside India.
